Savannah and all of Andrew County are served by Rolling Hills Consolidated Library, an independent library system that also includes the rural areas of Buchanan County and some parts of eastern St. Joseph.
The Savannah Branch at 514 W. Main is open seven days a week and provides full library services. Patrons can check out books, movies, music, magazines, and other items. There are public computers as well as study rooms and a meeting room available for use by the public. Users can access on-line research and educational databases through the library’s website, www.rhcl.org, and can attend programs and craft classes for children and adults. The Savannah Branch is also the only passport application office in Andrew County and can register residents to vote.
The library’s Bookmobile visits several schools and smaller communities in Andrew County on a regular basis, providing books and movies for patrons to check out. The library also maintains community bookcases in post offices in some of those towns and stocks the shelves with a variety of adult and youth books that are available on the honor system.
In addition, the library’s Services to Adult Readers (or STAR) Program provides service to homebound adults (including nursing home residents) who are unable to visit the library due to age, illness, disability or transportation challenges. The service allows users to select the materials they want and then delivers them either by mail or in person to patrons.
The library’s Belt Branch is located at 1904 N. Belt Hwy. in St. Joseph, and its Administrative Office is located upstairs at 1912 N. Belt Hwy. Patrons with library cards can check out materials from both branches and the Bookmobile.
